Two physicians receive

recognition by peers

Drs. John Bedwinek and Dan Luedke of Missouri Cancer Care, P.C., have been recognized nationally in their respective specialties by other physicians.Both oncologists are listed in the Best Doctors in America 2008 edition, with Bedwinek also being named a Fellow of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO).

Bedwinek, a board-certified radiation oncologist, will receive his designation as a Fellow during a ceremony at ASTRO's 50th annual meting scheduled for late September in Boston. ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world with more than 9,500 members. Nominations were reviewed by a nine-member Fellows Selection Committee who made recommendations to the ASTRO Board of Directors for the final decision.

A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Bedwinek is also a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, and of the American College of Radiation Oncology. He has been on the Best Doctors list since 1997 - the same year he joined Missouri Cancer Care.

Luedke, a board-certified medical oncologist, is founder and president of Missouri Cancer Care, one of the largest private oncology practices in the St. Louis region and the only such group to serve St. Charles County exclusively.

A graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, Luedke established Missouri Cancer Care in 1990 and has served on numerous, local hospital committees. Currently he is also medical director of oncology services at SSM St. Joseph Health Center's H.W. Koenig Cancer Center in St. Charles.

Best Doctors is an international company founded in 1989 by two doctors affiliated with Harvard University School of Medicine to identify the "best of the best" physicians in more than 400 subspecialties through peer-to-peer surveys, proprietary polling and balloting. The company collects up to 1.5 million evaluations annually from 30 countries. Only 5 percent in any country are selected to be on the Best Doctor list.

Physician joins

Mark Howard, MD, has joined the medical staff at Progress West HealthCare Center in O'Fallon.

Howard will practice full time at 1278 Bryan Road in the Hillman Farms Plaza in O'Fallon. He is seeing patients of all ages at Pheasant Point Physicians on Highway K until his permanent office is complete.

He is board-certified in family practice and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.

After graduating medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, he completed his internship in family medicine at Pinnacle Health Systems at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. Howard completed his residency in family medicine at Harbor-University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.

Howard is returning from California where he practiced family medicine in Rancho Santa Margarita. Previously, he was with SSM DePaul Medical Group and the DePaul Weight Loss Institute.

His clinical interests include pediatrics, sports medicine, preventive care, weight management and osteoporosis.
