Blood drives

CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers childbirth preparation classes to assist women and their partners to prepare for the birth of their baby. Information includes coping with labor, relaxation techniques, breathing methods and pain management options. It is recommended that these classes be started early in the third trimester. BREAST-FEEDING: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers breast-feeding classes for women who are planning to breast-feed and for those who have not yet decided. It is designed for mothers, fathers, grandparents and support persons and includes information on how the breast makes milk, how to establish a good milk supply, avoiding sore nipples and nurturing the breast-feeding family. AMERICAN RED CROSS FIRST AID, CPR AND AED TRAINING: The American Red Cross offers first aid, CPR and AED training classes at its St. Charles County Service Center, 224 Mid Rivers Center in St. Peters. First aid and CPR/AED instructor course - 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and Oct. 18; must attend all three days to receive certification. This course will teach attendees the skills to teach individuals how to provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses, perform CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator on victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Includes the fundamentals of instructor training course. Participants must be at least 16, pass the pre-course session with at least an 80 percent on each section and be competent in CPR, AED and first aid skills. Class costs $230.

First aid with CPR/AED training (adult) - 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 4 or 23. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in people over 12 by providing care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR, use an AED and other skills. Students will receive a CPR/AED certificate valid for one year and first aid certificate valid for three years. If you need only the CPR/AED Adult training, you may register for the first 4½ hours of the course for $42. For just the first aid component, register for the last two hours for $31. Entire class costs $53.

CPR/AED training adult and child plus CPR infant - 6-9 p.m. Oct. 7 and 6-9:30 p.m. Oct. 8; must attend both days to receive certification. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use an AED. Students will receive a CPR/AED Adult and Child plus CPR Infant certificate valid for one year. Class costs $52.

First aid training - 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 or 28. Designed for people who have current CPR certification, this course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to an emergency and give care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Students will receive a First Aid certificate valid for one year. Participants must present a current, within one year CPR certification to be eligible. Class costs $31.

CPR/AED adult training - 6-10:30 p.m. Oct. 27. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in people over 12 by providing care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use an AED. Students will receive a CPR/AED Adult certificate valid for one year. Class costs $42.
