Sound Off for Sept. 3
school construction I can't believe the Francis Howell School District is in such a hurry to get deep in debt again with this new construction. I realize the buildings are old, but you've got to make do. We're in a recession now. People are losing their houses right and left. I think they need to slow down until times get better before they start building up the schools. Who's going to pay for it? I don't think the people who float loans on these homes pay the taxes.Let pig stay and quit wasting time on it Good thing the St. Charles City Council has nothing better to do than waste time on one person's potbellied pig. For criminey's sake, let the woman keep her pig. It's just a pet. It's not like she's got a hog farm. How about we disband the City Council if that's all they've got to spend time on? Put the money into our roads instead. God knows we need them fixed up a little better. We could use whatever cash we could get instead of wasting money on endless debates about a pet. Raise minimum ages for voting, drinking Yesterday a retired friend of mine and I met for lunch. He and I agreed totally that the voting age should be raised to 31 instead of 18. We think the drinking age should be raised to at least 40. We'd eliminate half the drunks and half the problems in the world if we eliminated drinking until the age of 40 and you couldn't vote until you were 31, because then you're a little bit smarter. Good to see young people being polite Just wanted to compliment the young people of St. Charles for being so nice and polite. They say please and thank you, hold doors open, motion for us to go in traffic. I just wanted them to know we appreciate it and to keep up the good work. Don't need or want MetroLink service Being a resident of the city of St. Charles my entire life, I enjoy the life I have out here. If a person is concerned that they need the MetroLink, they should move closer to the MetroLink. Then they can ride it all they want. People move out this way and then all of a sudden want all these amenities. You knew it wasn't here when you moved out here. Move back where you came from or move closer to where you want to be. We do not need the MetroLink, and we do not want the MetroLink. Take cell phone back where you found it I'd like to call about lost and found. I found two cell phones in less than one month. And when I found them, I went to the phone and called the numbers that said "home," "Mom" or "Dad" to get the phone back to the person. I lost my cell phone this weekend, and the person didn't just take my phone, they took the SIM card out of it. To the person who did this, I hope one day it comes back to you. I'd really appreciate it if you would take it back where you found it or put the card back in the phone and call the number that says "home," and return the phone so I don't have to pay a lost and found fee. If you don't do that, I hope you don't lose something that costs money to you. Because then you'll know how I feel right now. Useless loss of life in auto accident Another useless loss of life and possibly more due to alcohol and no seat belts. If these young men were celebrating in downtown St. Charles, you can count on one hand to figure out which bar. Whoever was serving them the drinks should also be held accountable for serving them beyond their means. A cab should have been called. I live on Elm Street, and after 10 p.m. you take your life in your own hands if you drive on it. I'm tired of hearing screeching tires, boom boxes and loud mufflers, and I pray there is no one innocent in their path. O'Fallon preservation program is wonderful I'm commenting on the O'Fallon preservation program they started to help people repair their homes. I thank O'Fallon for this. To hear this is wonderful. Not only did the police department, the fire protection district and city staff go out there and help this man, they didn't sit and allow these homes to do what they're doing. So I thank you very much, O'Fallon, for what you're doing. Francis Howell wants too much from taxpayers I'm calling in regards to Francis Howell and all of the tax increases and bond issues. I think Francis Howell needs to slow down on this. They're pricing people right out of their houses with all the taxes they keep wanting to raise. These kids are getting way too much stuff in the classroom now, and I don't think they need to continue to add more and more and more. They can learn without all these new toys, computers, telephones in the classroom and whatever else they think they need. They need to stop with the taxes. People are tired of it. |
