BLOOD DRIVE

BLOOD DRIVE: Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will host a blood drive from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Dyer Memorial Center of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 534 N. CLASSESAUTISM: Autism Education and Support Services hosts classes at the Center for Autism Education, 105 Crossings Industrial Court in O'Fallon. Classes include Understanding Autism, 6-8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, and Strategies for Challenging Behaviors, 6-8 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month. CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers childbirth preparation classes to assist women and their partners to prepare for the birth of their baby. Information includes coping with labor, relaxation techniques, breathing methods and pain management options. It is recommended that these classes be started early in the third trimester. BREAST-FEEDING: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers breast-feeding classes for women who are planning to breast-feed and for those who have not yet decided. It is designed for mothers, fathers, grandparents and support persons and includes information on how the breast makes milk, how to establish a good milk supply, avoiding sore nipples and nurturing the breast-feeding family. AMERICAN RED CROSS FIRST AID AND CPR TRAINING: The American Red Cross offers CPR and first aid classes at its St. Charles County Service Center, 224 Mid Rivers Center in St. Peters. Participants must pay in advance; no walk-ins accepted. To register for a class, call the American Red Cross at 636-397-1074 or visit www.redcrossstl.org and register online in the "Take a Class" section. Classes are scheduled as follows:

A Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Training (Adult) class will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 28. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults (people 8 and older) by providing care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. If a student only needs CPR/AED-Adult training, he or she may register for the first four and a half hours of the course for $42. If a student only needs First Aid Component training, he or she may register for the last two hours of the course for $31. The entire class costs $53.

GRIEF SUPPORT EDUCATION: Baue Funeral Homes offers grief support education classes at the Baue Family and Community Center at 608 Jefferson St. in St. Charles. LUNG CANCER WORKSHOP: Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital will present a workshop on lung cancer, "Frankly speaking about lung cancer," from noon-1 p.m. Aug. 29 at St. Peters City Hall, 1 Centre Point Drive. Registration and lunch will be from 11-11:30 a.m. The program will cover side effects, side effect management and tools to overcome the social and emotional challenges of the diagnosis. THYROID AND PARATHYROID PROGRAM: Progress West HealthCare Center in O'Fallon will present a program, "Thyroid and parathyroid: Common problems, diagnoses and treatment," from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 9 at Middendorf-Kredell Library Branch, 2750 Highway K in O'Fallon. Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Carson Agee will explain the common problems with the thyroid and parathyroid, discuss diagnostic tests and review options for treatment. PEDIATRIC FIRST AID BASICS: Progress West HealthCare Center, 2 Progress West Parkway in O'Fallon, will present a pediatric first aid program from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 17 in the community room. This class is for parents and grandparents and will present first aid basics for children. Participants will learn practical age-specific safety information to stop injuries before they happen and will learn how to respond to injuries and other emergencies when they occur. DAY AT THE SPA: Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and The Face & the Body Day Spa will host a day of health screenings from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 26 at The Face & the Body Day Spa, 2917 Highway K, O'Fallon. The event will offer mammograms for women age 40 and older who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer. The fee will be billed to the patient, the patient's insurance company or Medicare. Check insurance regarding coverage and present insurance at the appointment. Mammograms are available at no cost for women with limited or no insurance. Also available will be bone density screenings from 9 a.m.-noon and a seminar on breast health, "Breast health and your role," from 10:30-11:30 a.m. A Visia Complexion Analysis will be offered, as well. HEALTH FAIR: Lauer Chiropractic, 1586 Country Club Plaza, St. Charles, will host a health fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 22-23.
