YOUR PLACE TO CALL HOME: Join us to help flood victims on Aug. 2
The Concert for Flood Relief, organized by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled from 2-8 p.m. that day to raise money for St. Charles County residents and businesses devastated by the recent flood. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross-St. Charles County Service Center to help provide assistance to the families victimized by the flooding. Local bands, including Jasha & The Sixty Minute Men and Contagious, will provide the entertainment. The St. Charles County Association of Realtors is proud to join the St. Charles Chamber, St. Charles Jaycees, Ameristar Casino, Powerline Public Relations and other companies and organizations in supporting this relief effort. The concert is free; cash donations will be accepted and encouraged. The devastation caused by the recent floods in our county was extensively chronicled by the local media. I watched the coverage and, like all of you, could only imagine the heartbreak felt by those who saw their homes and businesses destroyed by the raging waters. The thoughts and prayers of our region, and indeed our nation, went out to the victims of the flooding. Times of crisis always bring out the best in us and our fellow Americans. Volunteers from across the region heeded the call and flocked to Winfield, Clarksville and other communities in a valiant effort to keep the flood waters out of those communities. Those that weren't able to join the sandbag brigades helped out in any way they could. The American spirit shined brightly as it always does in times of crisis. The waters have receded, but the needs continue. The clean-up and rebuilding effort is under way, and our neighbors still need our help. If you are looking for a way to lend a hand, if you want to support the outstanding work of the American Red Cross, join us next Saturday at Frontier Park. Your support and attendance is vital to helping us make a difference for those in need. The St. Charles County Realtor family is honored to be part of this community and to serve the families who call St. Charles County home. My fellow Realtors and affiliates are proud to answer the call to help. U.S. Title, led by St. Charles marketing director Chris Hauenstein, and Continental Title, led by marketing director Melissa Palitzsch, and other real estate organizations have collected truckloads of cleaning supplies, water and food stuffs for those in need. Like all of you, Realtors know that despite floods, high gas prices and economic setbacks, the American spirit shines brightly in St. Charles County and across this nation. We are honored to have had the opportunity to help more than 2,100 families find their place to call home in the first half of this year. We are proud to fulfill our mission as Keepers of the American Dream. We know that the American Dream is not just about the homes we sell. It is about giving back to the communities we serve. It is about lending a hand to those in need. We are proud to support the outstanding work of many great organizations that help make St. Charles County a better place to live, work and raise our families. We are proud to help in a small way the work of the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Karen Weidinger Foundation, Bridgeway Counseling Services and many other organizations dedicated to making our county a better place. The American spirit shines brightly despite blows from Mother Nature, economic hard times or enemies at home or abroad. We always come together as a community and a nation; and we emerge stronger, unified and committed to a brighter future for our children and grandchildren. The Concert for Flood Relief is an opportunity for all of us to come together with our families and show those in need that the American spirit is alive and well in St. Charles County. For more information on the concert, contact Scott Tate at the St. Charles Chamber at 636-946-0633 or via e-mail at Scott@StCharlesChamber.org. Only monetary donations can be accepted at the concert. If you would like to donate cleaning supplies to the Red Cross effort, contact the St. Charles chamber prior to the concert. I hope that all of you who read this will join my fellow Realtors and me at Frontier Park on Aug. 2. Together we can make a difference for those in need.
