Voter registration

deadline is July 9

The St. Charles County Election Authority is reminding residents that July 9 is the last day they can register to vote and be eligible to vote in the Aug. 5 primary.Also, anyone currently registered in St. Charles County who has moved from one residence in the county to another residence in the county should notify the election authority, so that the office can send their voter-notification card to the correct address and provide them with the correct polling location for the August primary.

The notification cards are not forwarded to the voter's new address.

Mortgage seminar

planned for seniors

O'Fallon's Senior Advisory Board will host a free seminar, titled "Seniors, Let's Talk about Reverse Mortgages, Home Equity Loans, Assisted Living and Nursing Homes."

The seminar is scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon July 19 at the O'Fallon Senior Center, 106 N. Main St.

Bob Lane and Karen Webb will discuss advantages and disadvantages of reverse mortgages. Lane is a mortgage banker with the Paramount Mortgage Company. Webb, of Wachovia Securities, is a member of AARP's speakers' bureau.

Richard Cavanagh will discuss pros and cons of assisted living verses nursing homes. Cavanagh teaches health administration and gerontology at Webster University and is president of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program of St. Louis.

County offers hunter

education course

The St. Charles County Parks Department will offer a hunter education course from 6-10 p.m. July 28 to 30 at Quail Ridge Park near Wentzville.

The course will include firearm safety, hunt preparation, wildlife conservation and hunter ethics. Participants must complete a written exam to complete their certification.

Registration costs $5 and is limited to the first 25 people. Log on to www.mdc.mo.gov to enroll. Participants must be at least 11 years old and accompanied by an adult if under age 16.
