NEW: Man attacked by his own dog
The owner of a 100-pound South African mastiff was attacked by the dog Wednesday morning at his home on Stealey Road near New Melle. Charles Dees, 59, suffered wounds to his arms, back and legs in the attack, said St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Craig McGuire. A neighbor who saw the attack called 911 to report the incident. By the time paramedics arrived, the dog was in the garage, McGuire said. Dees was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West and St. Charles County animal control officers tranquilized the mastiff and took it to Humane Services. Dees had two other dogs, a Pyrenees/collie mix and a Labrador retriever/Newfoundland mix, both which were taken to the Humane Services because animal control officials were concerned about leaving them in the garage because of the heat, said John Sonderegger, spokesman for St. Charles County Animal Control. |
