ARTHRITIS AQUATICS: The O'Fallon Family YMCA, 3451 Pheasant Meadows Drive, and St. Charles Family YMCA, 3900 Ehlmann Road, offer an Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Program for the relief of arthritis pain and stiffness. AUTISM: Autism Education and Support Services hosts classes at the Center for Autism Education, 105 Crossings Industrial Court in O'Fallon. Classes include Understanding Autism, 6-8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, and Strategies for Challenging Behaviors, 6-8 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month. CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers childbirth preparation classes to assist women and their partners to prepare for the birth of their baby. Information includes coping with labor, relaxation techniques, breathing methods and pain management options. It is recommended that these classes be started early in the third trimester. BREAST-FEEDING: SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, 100 Medical Plaza in Lake Saint Louis, offers breast-feeding classes for women who are planning to breast feed and for those who have not yet decided. It is designed for mothers, fathers, grandparents and support persons and includes information on how the breast makes milk, how to establish a good milk supply, avoiding sore nipples and nurturing the breast-feeding family. FAMILY AND FRIENDS CPR CLASS: Progress West HealthCare Center, 2 Progress Point Parkway in O'Fallon, will offer an adult, infant and child CPR class from 6:30-9:30 p.m. April 17 in the hospital cafe. Participants will include instruction and hands on practice in infant, child and adult CPR and first-aid for choking. The class costs $25. For more information or to register, call 314-454-KIDS. AMERICAN RED CROSS FIRST AID AND CPR TRAINING: The American Red Cross offers CPR and first aid classes at its St. Charles County Service Center, 224 Mid Rivers Center in St. Peters. Participants must pay in advance; no walk-ins accepted. Classes are scheduled as follows: A Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Training (Adult) class will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. March 27, April 5, 14 and 24. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergencies involving people older than age 8 until medical help arrives. Students will receive a CPR/AED-Adult certificate valid for one year and a First Aid certificate valid for three years. Cost is $51. Students who need only the CPR/AED-Adult certificate may register for the first 4.5 hours of the course for $39. Students who need only the First Aid Component can register for the last two hours of the course for $29. CPR/AED Training Adult/Child/Infant will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. March 31. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in people older than 8, children and infants. Students will receive a CPR/AED-Adult/Child/Infant certificate valid for one year. Cost is $49. CPR/AED Training for Adult and Child Plus CPR Training-Infant will be from 6-9 p.m. April 8 for part one and from 6-9:30 p.m. April 9 for part two (students must attend both days to receive certification) or from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. April 26. This class trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. Participants will learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims, perform CPR and use an AED on a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. Students will receive a CPR/AED-Adult and Child plus CPR-Infant certificate valid for one year. The class costs $50. A First Aid Component Training Class will be from from 6-8:30 p.m. April 10 and 29. This class is designed for persons with current CPR certification and trains lay responders to recognize and respond to an emergency and give care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Participants must present a current, within one year CPR-Adult, CPR/AED-Adult, CPR-Adult, Infant and Child or CPR/AED-Adult & Child plus CPR/Infant certificate to be eligible for this course. Participants must being card to class. The class costs $29. A pet first aid for cats and dogs training class will be from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 19. This course teaches information and skills to help prevent, prepare for and respond to pet first aid emergencies. Participants learn how to respond to life-threatening conditions such as choking, breathing emergencies, poisoning and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Participants also learn how to perform rescue breathing and CPR skills, using dog and cat manikins. There is no age limit for this class, as long as children attend with an adult. Participants will receive a card showing completion of the course. The course costs $32 and includes a textbook. CPR/AED Adult Training will be from 6 to 10:30 p.m. April 28. This course trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency situations and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in people 8 and older. Students will receive a CPR/AED-Adult certificate valid for one year. The class costs $40. GRIEF SUPPORT EDUCATION: Baue Funeral Homes will offer grief support education programs. Classes will be from 6:30-8 p.m. and will include Helping children cope on March 26; and What now? on April 2. Classes also will be from 10-11:30 a.m. and will include Understanding grief on April 11; Grief and your health on April 18; Living with memories on April 25; Financials and forms on May 2; Helping children cope on May 9; and What now? on May 16.
