Get wet with Wolves
Last season, led by then-sophomores Taylor Wohrley and Amanda Masters, the Wolves finished eighth in the state and collected five medals. Timberland returns all of its state medal winners from last season, including its 200-yard medley relay team that finished fourth. The Wolves have five seniors, including two from the 200 medley relay team, Alexa Wohrley and Danielle Hladky. Combine their experience with two of the state's best swimmers - Taylor Wohrley and Masters - and it's easy to see why Timberland could contend for the team championship."Their work ethic is just amazing," coach Brooke O'Donnell said. "I think that is the one thing that helps them out a lot." Though the Wolves don't have the largest team in the area, they certainly have one of the most experienced. Taylor Wohrley and Masters are the Wolves' top swimmers. Both have won numerous state medals in their freshmen and sophomore seasons. Wohrley is the two-time defending state champion in the 100 backstroke. "They're both amazing," O'Donnell said. One key with both Taylor Wohrley and Masters, along with several other Timberland swimmers, is that they continue to swim with their school, as well as club teams. Masters recorded a pair of third-place state finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Timberland won't be resting its state championship hopes on the shoulders of Masters and Taylor Wohrley alone, though. The Wolves have several successful relay teams and several up-and-coming freshmen. The Wolves' 200 medley relay team returns intact for a third straight year. That group finished third in their first year together and followed that up with the fourth-place finish last season. If returning experience is any indication, Timberland has a chance to add to its growing state medal haul from the last few seasons. "Overall, I think it's going to be a great year," O'Donnell said. The Wolves will compete in the Lady Flyer Invitational on Saturday. |
