One of Amp’s originals is heading for new start

Stephanie Weeks, one of the original Amp writers, is moving to North Carolina at the end of this month. She has been a great asset to Amp. We wish her good luck with school and her career. Thank you Stephanie, for helping to make Amp a success!

As I begin to write this last AMP article of mine, I am surrounded by teens pumped for summer.

Not that I blame them. I, myself, am looking forward to leaving the daily stress I get from school and instead spending my days heading to the pool and sleeping in. Don’t get me wrong, summer is amazing for all that.

But I cannot entirely share my peers’ end-of-the-year joy. For me, the last day of school is just a reminder of saying goodbye to all my friends. And this time, I won’t be seeing them over the summer or even in fall when school starts back up.

And on top of it all, I have to also say goodbye to Amp.

Amp has been a significant part of my life. Sometimes writing articles stresses me out and I don’t know what to write. But now, knowing that I won’t have that in North Carolina, I feel an emptiness starting to settle in my stomach.

Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever have something like Amp again. Not just working for the school paper, but the actual local newspaper is, for me, something to be proud of. And I know I’m not the only Amper to think this.

Raymond Castile has been a huge help throughout my Amp experience. I’ve learned so much from him. Things that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn otherwise. I have to say, Raymond, I highly doubt I’ll ever find an editor as wacky and original as you!

And my fellow Amp members I will also miss highly. They went from complete strangers to friends I interacted with outside of school. My greatest inspirations have no doubt come from Samantha Abrams and Kiran Kaur. Their writing really has amazed me.

For all Ampers and readers of Amp, I really want to say thanks. We could not have made it this far if we didn’t have support.
